The Office for Ministry Development at the Episcopal Church Center administers the Conant Fund Grants. Applications are reviewed and approved in the Fall of each year beginning in Fall 2002. Should you wish to apply for a grant, please request a copy of the grant application form from your Episcopal Seminary Dean.
GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATIONS
1. Conant Fund Grants are for the improvement of theological education. They are for the support of research, writing and course development undertaken by a faculty member at one of the recognized Episcopal seminaries in the United States.
2. Preference will be given to applications from full-time faculty members that address the needs of theological education, or to projects scholarly in their intent that benefit the seminary or the wider church.
3. Grants will be made for projects undertaken and clearly scheduled to be completed within the grant year, which runs from June I - May 31. Final grant reports from both the recipient and the Seminary Dean are due no later than the end of the grant year.
4. Grants will be awarded in two categories. An applicant may apply in only one category.
A. Incentive grants of $5,000 (one month), $10,000 (two months) or $15,000 (three months) to free a faculty member for a period of time to undertake writing, research and/or innovative course development.
The Dean's endorsement of applications must indicate that during the period for which grant support is sought, the faculty will be free from teaching and all but routine seminary duties, and additionally that, in the case of applications for incentive grants, the amount of the grant will not be paid in lieu of the faculty member's contractual salary.
B. Travel and subsistence grants of up to $10,000 to allow a faculty member to visit libraries, research centers, other seminaries, or other locations where materials and/or persons needful for the project are located.
Budget estimates for travel should reflect the best available coach fares for the proposed destination(s). Applications may include a per diem allowance of up to $125.00 per day.
5. Successful applicants and their deans must submit final reports on grant-supported projects by the end of the grant year, May 31. Failure to comply with this requirement will jeopardize future grant applications from both the faculty member and the seminary.
