Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) is providing emergency assistance to residents in western North Carolina following the effects of Hurricane Frances. Hurricane Frances, which developed into a Category 4 storm, slowly tore through Florida and into Georgia, as well as North and South Carolina. The hurricane killed at least 10 people and millions remain without power.
ERD is supporting relief efforts in the Diocese of Western North Carolina after rain flooded homes and roads in the towns of Canton, Trion, and Morganton. ERD will assist the diocese in working with affected parishes to provide temporary shelter, replace destroyed items, and repair a parish building which housed after school tutorial programs.
"The people flooded out [of their homes and businesses] need help in replacing almost everything," said Bishop Robert Johnson of Western North Carolina. "ERD's emergency assistance funds will be used wisely and faithfully."
Please pray for people affected by the hurricanes. For updates on ERD's response to communities following the hurricanes, please visit www.er-d.org.
