Episcopal Relief and Development commemorates World AIDS Day

11/30/2004
[Episcopal Relief and Development]  Over 32 million people are living with HIV/AIDS and the disease threatens families and communities around the world.

"HIV/AIDS is so complex and devastates entire communities," said Janette O'Neill, ERD's Program Director of Africa. "ERD's programs care for people dying from HIV/AIDS and support those still living with the disease," said O'Neill. "We help whole communities come together to nurture the growing number of orphans. We make sure they are fed, clothed, educated, and valued as individuals."

ERD is working in nine of the 11 Anglican provinces in Africa in areas hardest hit by HIV/AIDS such as Southern Africa, Rwanda, Burundi, and West Africa. ERD's comprehensive programs provide prevention education, home-based care for affected families, and support children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
