The Rev. Dr. Ian Douglas
Professor of Mission and World Christianity
and
The Rev. Canon Edward Rodman
Carpenter visiting professor of Racism Studies and Social Change
Friday, April 15, 2005
10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
This seminar is designed to invite participants into a dialogue regarding The Windsor Report. The Rev. Dr. Ian Douglas, who is also a consultant to the Presiding Bishop and House of Bishops and Member of the Inter-Anglican Standing Commission on Mission and Evangelism, and Rev. Canon Rodman will reflect on the Report in the context of The Episcopal Church's place in the Anglican Communion and in the world. The discussion will also explore whether The Windsor Report addresses God's mission of justice, compassion, and reconciliation and how effective it will be in "restoring all people to unity with God and each other in Christ." (BCP p. 855).
During the workshop, participants will be asked to consider a series of questions designed to take them deeper into the discussion, mindful that some need more encouragement than others in order to speak from the same place, the heart. As the Rev. Canon Rodman explains, "There are multiple centers of truth, the legitimacy of which is determined by the amount of power it has in any given culture or situation. Contradictory truths not only can but must co-exist."
