Everyday Advocacy: Make the Most of Election Day

As  Father Theodore Hesburgh said – “voting is a civic sacrament.” Here are some creative ways to help people excercise their right to vote.
  • Print and hand out cards with the Election Protection voter assistance hotline, 1-866-OUR VOTE, and website to find poll locations, http://www.mypollingplace.com/
  • Volunteer for the Election Protection project
  • On Sunday, November 5, plan a moment during the service to encourage members of the congregation to “take their souls to the polls,” perhaps during a mission moment or sharing of concerns. Prayer can be offered for faithful and careful discernment by all voters and all our elected leaders.
  • Arrange rides for people who need transportation to the polls.
  • Provide child care for parents who otherwise couldn’t get to the polls.
  • Provide ready-to-go breakfast and/or dinner bags for time-crunched voters who need to vote early or late in the day due to work schedules.
  • Support and encourage voters standing in long lines.
