Refugee Admissions

EMM's advocacy emphasizes a generous U.S. admissions program which responds to the worldwide refugee crisis.  The priority given to this advocacy relates to the significant decline in refugees being resettled in the U.S. over the past ten years, a problem heightened by the events of 9/11. EMM advocacy stresses the priority which should be given to keeping our doors open even as we ensure that our nation is protected from terror.

With the passage of the Patriot Act immediately following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and the enactment of the REAL ID Act, another law deemed to be an anti-terrorist measure enacted last year, refugees who have allegedly given "material support" to "terrorist groups" are now considered inadmissible to the U.S.
