Lucas Grubbs
attended the University of Idaho
and after studying in Zaragoza, Spain
for a year, received his B.A. in Spanish in ’01. He attended Yale/Berkeley Divinity School in New
Haven, Connecticut where he
received his M.Div in ’05. During his
time at seminary, Lucas worked for a summer with the Anglican Church in Spain,
spent a semester abroad at Westcott House Anglican Seminary in Cambridge,
England, and worked as a
seminary intern at Christ Church,
New Haven. In ’06 he returned to Yale
Divinity School
to work on an S.T.M. in liturgical studies.
Having been ordained in ’05, he simultaneously served his first curacy
at Christ Church,
New Haven for two years. It was there that he began organizing young
adult ministry.
“Christ
Church was unique in that it is
such a deeply liturgical place—and that, I believe, was immensely attractive to
a large young adult contingency,” says Lucas.
In order to minister to this section of the congregation, he organized
various events for the 20/30’s set. “We
often had progressive dinners in people’s homes, took part in parish projects
and shared Eucharist together. The
combination of a relaxed atmosphere, good food and drink and informal
theological discussions made for a great young adult ministry experience.”
In the
summer of ’07, Lucas and his wife Meredith moved west where he now serves as
the canon pastor of St. Michael’s Cathedral, Boise. He is exited to start work with TEC Young
Adult ministry, especially since it is fairly underrepresented in this part of
the country. “Boise
is a thriving, exiting place to be right now.
St. Michael’s Cathedral is vibrant and constantly growing. The young adult ministry opportunities at
this place are just waiting to be explored!”
Lucas’
interests include backpacking in the great Idaho
wilderness, international travel, cuisine, liturgy and theology. He is also an avid collector and listener of
music of all types. He can often be
found scouring the local thrift stores to grow his collection of vinyl
records…on his day off, that is.
