MiX: Music in Christ
Raising up a new generation of singers, songwriters, and musicians
This was an opportunity for 10 new artists between the ages of 16-28 to further develop their music and leadership expression. MiX was held in Nashville, TN from July 24-31, 2004. It is our hope that the music created at MiX will be suitable for recording and distribution, owned by the whole church, promoting new voices and composers. MiX was sponsored by the Offices of Youth Ministries and Young Adult and Higher Education Ministries of the Episcopal Church. This CD is now available from Episcopal Parish Services. The musicians on this album are as diverse as the church itself. We come from many different backgrounds, in terms of both musical experience and training, as well as race, culture, theology, geography, and life experience. Some of us have spent years studying music, while some of us have never had a single lesson. We are gospel and baroque, jazz and folk, plainsong and rock 'n' roll. Yet despite our differences, we stand on common ground: we all believe in the risen Christ.

HOW IT GOT STARTED
From gospel and folk to rock and soul, New Voices, New Songs proved that strength came in diversity. From over fifty tape and CD submissions, sixteen young adults and youth musicians were chosen. New York, Georgia, and Texas were only a few places representin' their talent. Not to mention the international applicants, one from New Zealand, and one from Uganda.

Each song, lyrics and tunes included, was written by a young person under the age of 30. And if you think that's impressive, the youngest songwriter was 16 at the time of recording. The following tracks tell of joy and heartbreak, celebration and mourning, being a part of a community and being alone. There is no doubt that it represents some of the hottest writing of any music to be found today.
