1997 - Designate a "Decade of Remembrance, Recognition, and Reconciliation"




Committee on Social and Urban Affairs

Resolved, That the Episcopal Church of the United States of America in its 72nd General Convention of the Episcopal Church, meeting in Philadelphia in July, 1997, designate the decade 1997-2007 as the "Decade of Remembrance, Recognition, and Reconciliation" during which each diocese will take such steps as necessary to fully recognize and welcome Native Peoples into congregational life, which will include a special effort toward developing an outreach partnership among urban Native Peoples; and be it further

Resolved, That the 72nd General Convention of the Episcopal Church designate the Episcopal Council of Indian Ministries and Office of Native American Ministries with $30,000 funding for the triennium, and with responsibility for planning appropriate celebrations, events, and materials for the Decade of Remembrance, Recognition and Reconciliation, and that progress reports be presented at the 73rd General Convention.
